WHY RANK?

REPORT THIS LISTING 1 - The Detroit Science Center
The mission of the Detroit Science Center is to inspire Detroit area children and their families to discover and appreciate science, technology and engineering in a dynamic, fun learning environment. Founded by Detroit businessman and philanthropist Dexter Ferry nearly 30 years ago, the Detroit Science Center was among the first centers for scientific exploration and learning in the country to include an IMAX® Dome Theatre. An exhibit floor and program plan encouraged hands-on interaction, exploration and study of science and technology. Plans to transform the Detroit Science Center into a leading center for science education began in late 1998. In December 1999, the Science Center broke ground on its $30 million expansion and renovation. More than doubling in size, the Detroit Science Center would offer 110,000 square feet of scientific exploration, including Michigan’s only IMAX® Dome Theatre; a state-of-the-art digital planetarium; the Ford Learning Resource Center learning environments; the DTE Energy Sparks Theater; the DaimlerChrysler Science Stage; an 8,700 square-foot Science Hall for traveling exhibits; five exhibit laboratories – General Motors Motion Laboratory, Dow Foundation Life Sciences Laboratory, Waves & Vibrations Laboratory, Matter & Energy Laboratory and SBC Children’s Gallery; and a Special Events Lobby.

REPORT THIS LISTING 1 - Greenfield Village (Dearborn)
When a new road forced Henry Ford's beloved birthplace from its original location, Ford decided not only to move it, but to restore and refurnish it to match his boyhood recollections. The restoration received so much press that Ford was inundated with requests to save other buildings. Soon after, the idea for Greenfield Village was born.

REPORT THIS LISTING 1 - The Henry Ford Museum (Dearborn)
It began as one man’s vision to document the genius of ordinary people by preserving the objects they used in the course of their everyday lives. It grew to become one of the largest collections of its kind ever assembled — a remarkable destination that brings American ideas and innovations to life. There are planes and trains and, of course, automobiles. Lincoln's "Death Chair" is there, and so is the Rosa Parks bus and Thomas Edison's test-tubed last breath. One of just two IMAX Dome theaters in metro Detroit is located here

REPORT THIS LISTING 1 - Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum (Farmington Hills)
Marvin can be quoted as saying, "Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum is known from coast to coast, like butter and toast. From headlines to bedlines, from school rooms to pool rooms, this place is like no other that can be found in the contiguous United States and other environs of the free world." I don't think I could have said it better. And if you have been to Marvin's, you would certainly agree with the above statement.

REPORT THIS LISTING 1 - Upland Hills Farm - Oxford
Upland Hills Farm was founded by Knight and Dorothy Webster in 1960. Knight was a farm boy from Wisconsin with a degree in agriculture and Dorothy was an educator. Their dream was to bring the joys and lessons of rural life to an ever increasing urban society. That dream has taken many paths through the years. The Farm has grown from 1,000 people served in 1960 to over 100,000 people annually today. We've expanded programs from the initial day camp and hayrides to the programs described below. The traditions of the farm are now being carried on by a second generation: Steve and Leslie Webster, with Casey Berant as the Camp Director and Farm Manager.
