WHY RANK?

REPORT THIS LISTING 1 - St. Andrews Hall in downtown Detroit
"Since 1980, historic St. Andrews Hall in downtown Detroit has brought trend-setting music to Detroit audiences. During the early 1980s, everyone from British New Wave groups like New Order to the then-college radio bands like R.E.M. played St. Andrews Hall. When alternative music was still truly alternative, St. Andrews Hall was the place to see these avant-garde bands: The Red Hot Chili Peppers played there as early as 1984; Jane's Addiction first played in 1988; in 1989, long before grunge, Soundgarden played there. At the forefront of musical trends, these breakthrough artists have graced the stage of St. Andrews Hall: Smashing Pumpkins in 1989; Nine Inch Nails in 1990, Nirvana and Pearl Jam in 1991, Alice in Chains in 1992, Green Day in 1994, Oasis in 1995. The ballroom which holds 1,000 people, is a favorite venue among musicians as well as concert-goers because of its acoustics and perfect sight lines." ~ Metro Times

REPORT THIS LISTING 0 - The Majestic Theater Center
4120-4140 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI - The Majestic, our largest live music venue, is the auditorium of the original Majestic Theatre. Built in 1915, The Majestic Theatre was touted as the largest theatre built for the purpose of showing motion pictures and also featured live vaudeville acts. The Majestic Theatre's innovations in design included a new lighting system that could be raised and dimmed ("to go from sunrise to sunset") and an air-conditioning system which generated cool air in the theatre by using huge fans to blow on giant slabs of ice located in the basement. Over the years, the theatre became a third- and fourth-run movie house, a church, a photo studio, a trophy shop and in 1987 became known as The Majestic, featuring live music and entertainment from touring blues, rock, jazz, folk, reggae and worldbeat artists.
