REPORT THIS LISTING 0 - UCCA | University Cultural Center Association
The unique character and resources of Midtown Detroit inspired the leaders of Wayne State University, the College for Creative Studies, the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Engineering Society of Detroit to form the University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) in 1976. The UCCA was organized to support the physical maintenance and development of the area and to enhance public awareness, appreciation and use of Midtown Detroit. In the first decade, activities focused on special events, planning, transportation and public awareness campaigns. In 1987, as a result of an internal review of UCCA’s mission and organization, UCCA’s board expanded the membership, restructured the Board of Directors, established a progressive dues structure and provided greater resources to supplement UCCA projects.

REPORT THIS LISTING 0 - Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association
The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association began in the fall of 1948 by Ty Tyson and other sports announcers in metropolitan Detroit. Tyson and others were disenchanted with what they perceived as 'second class citizenship' in the press box at then-Briggs Stadium. It seems the electronic media were not granted the access afforded the baseball and pro football writers in Detroit. Recognition of the organization came quickly. Regular sportscasters of all major Detroit stations became members and took an active role in supporting the DSBA. Membership later swelled as color analysts and part-time sportscasters from smaller stations joined. Meetings were held weekly at the Detroit Press Club as major sports news was broken at the Wednesday gatherings.
