All persons who enter the 16th District Court are subject to a search of both their person and belongings. Signs posted at the Court's entrance list all items which are prohibited and which will be seized if found on your person. Proper attire is required for entry into the 16th District Court. If you are not dressed appropriately, you will not be seen by a Judge or Probation Officer. Prohibited attire includes SHORTS, SKORTS, SLEEVELESS SHIRTS, TANK TOPS, CUT-OFFS, HATS/CAPS and other clothing which is not suitable in a court of law. Shoes are also required. You must appear promptly at times designated on your notice, ticket or other documentation. Failure to appear timely may result in adverse action being taken against you.

The 18th District Court is one of the busiest courts in a vast network of Michigan trial courts. In 2006, the 18th District Court had a total case load of approximately 85,000 cases. The judges at the 18th District Court have the authority to hear misdemeanor cases (where the maximum possible sentence is one year in jail) and civil cases in which damages claimed do not exceed $25,000. The 18th District Court also handles civil infractions (tickets) which carry monetary penalties and points on your driving record. In addition, the Court has jurisdiction over landlord-tenant disputes and small claims (disputes with damages up to $3,000).

The Taylor court is the first courthouse in Michigan to partner with California-based U.S. Audiotex to establish a Citation Service Bureau, which processes credit-card payments from persons receiving tickets. The fully automated system enables payments by telephone 24 hours a day.
