The purpose of the 1st Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corps is 1) to perpetuate through high musical standards, the tradition of historically accurate 18th century music, especially that related to the colonization of America; 2) provide educational opportunities in music; and 3) to provide an opportunity for citizenship development and social development. The mission of the 1st Michigan is to educate our members and the public about 18th century music and life by performing as a colonial fife and drum corps, which is as accurate as practical in its music, uniform and style. The Corps will be known for its unique musical style, exemplary conduct on and off the field, and good will towards others.

Established in 2002, the Metro Detroit Police & Fire Pipes & Drums band's purpose is to honor our fallen brothers and sisters killed in the line of duty. The band will be available free of charge to the family and requesting agency for any in line duty deaths throughout the State of Michigan. Currently we have 15 members who are all sworn Police Officers and Firefighters. To pay tribute and honor to Police Officers and Firefighters throughout the State of Michigan that are killed in the line of duty. Such tribute and honor shall be accomplished by providing music at funeral services when requested by the family or the respective agency.

Our Award Winning Falcon Marching Band is the pride of DC. The main purpose of the marching band is to support our Falcon Football Team, as well as represent the Divine Child community. Performances include all home football games, the schools homecoming parade, the Dearborn Memorial Day parade, the Mackinaw Memorial Day parade (mayor's award), Polish Day parade in Hamtramick (best marching unit) and at the M.S.B.O.A. Marching Band Festival(several awards) held in October of every year.

The Ferndale High School Marching Band is under the direction of Mr. Elon Jamison. Ferndale has been a member of the Michigan Competitive Band Association (MCBA) since 1989. The band has finished in the top ten each year at the MCBA State Championships since 1991, including 1st place finishes in Flight III in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The band has won numerous awards and honors at various parades and competitions around the state and country.

The Plymouth-Canon Marching Band is part of a broader fine arts program offered in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. Its Wind Ensemble and Symphony bands have consistently rated among the best in the state of Michigan. PCEP band students and alumni have performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Civic Youth Orchestra, the Michigan Youth Band, the National Honor Band of America, and the MSBOA All State Honor Band and Orchestra. The concert program is co-taught by directors Amy Boerma and Marc Whitlock.

In the finest tradition of 19th-century Americana, the origin of the Michigan Marching Band was a grass roots student effort. In November 1896, the University of Michigan Band held its first rehearsal. At the behest of University President James Burrill Angell that the newly-formed band prove itself to be a "sincere venture," the U-M Band gave its first public performance in 1897 at old University Hall for the Law School's annual observance of Washington's birthday. The first appearance on a football field was in the fall of 1898.
