- J-Blog @ Michigan State UniversityIn fall 2003, I began this job as Director of the J-School at Michigan State. It's been great working with terrific students and faculty. Our students are amazing. They are doing terrific things in internships and in campus orgs like The State News, Focal Point, SND, The Big Green and others. They also land great jobs when they graduate.

- Metroblogging DetroitMetroblogging started off as a more locally focused alternative news source in Los Angeles and has turned into the largest and fastest growing network of city-specific blogs on the Web. We got sick of reading local news that was syndicated from the other side of the country, or was just repurposed national chit chat that had nothing to do with our city. We created our first blog as a throw back to the days when a local news paper focused on local issues, and you could walk down to the corner coffee shop and chat up the reporters whose column you read earlier that day. This idea didn’t stay in one city for long and before we knew it there were Metblogs in Chicago, Portland, Karachi, and Vienna. Today there are over 50 Metblogs in countries all over the world. Local politics, event reviews, lunch recommendations and ways to avoid that big traffic jam downtown. If it’s happening in our cities, we’re on it.

- Arise Detroit! We are a broad-based coalition of community groups. Our mission is to launch a new wave of volunteerism for the many worthwhile programs and activities that are struggling with the issues that trouble our community – illiteracy, high school dropout rates, crime and youth violence, drug abuse, domestic abuse, neighborhood blight and unemployment. It is our belief that everyone can play a role and render service, thereby having a greater impact on solving these chronic problems. Our goal is to unite the entire community — nonprofit organizations, churches, schools, the business community and the media — in an unprecedented call to action. This movement is about making a personal commitment for change at a critical time in our city’s history. We invite you to be part of this historic effort.

- The Detroit Underground Music CommunityThe Detroit Underground is a many faceted organization whose main purpose is promoting local music. Some members set up shows at venues with local bands, some promote bands through networking, still others promote local music through mediums like myspace and the web. Whether working together or separately, the goal is always the same, exposure for local artists. The Detroit Underground Music Community is here to work for the benefit of all. Detroit’s musical legacy stands even to this day. Its time is coming again and you are all invited to witness the birth of a new era. Peace, unity and the underground.
