1- ZeitGeistDETROIT - Detroit Welcome to The Zeitgeist: Founded in 1997 and still going! GALLERY HOURS: Friday 5 - 8pm, Saturday 12 noon - 5pm, and by appointment. Just a mile from Detroit's beautiful abandoned Train Station on the outskirts of Corktown, The Zeitgeist Gallery and Performance Venue's vision is as rare, raw, and unexpected as the city itself. In 1997, Troy Richard bought the former Michigan Gallery to open a venue for the works of experimental playwrights. Along with producing classic avant-garde plays as well as original works, half the Zeitgeist space became a venue for art just as invested in the experimental. The Zeitgeist Gallery was inspired by the late Jacques Karamanoukian: artist, thinker, art dealer, humanitarian. Karl Schneider, a painter and sculptor, operated the Zeitgeist Gallery until 2001, when James Puntingam became curator.
