- Great Lakes Green InitiativeWelcome to the Green Commons for the Great Lakes Green Initiative - an intentional community of hope for a sustainable future. We come primarily from the Detroit metropolitan area, and have decided to come together in an effort to promote environmental sustainability. A small group meets weekly, and the larger group, monthly. The project began in earnest in September, 2005, and is currently tackling areas of interest to us.

The organization develops collaborative relationships with community, government, and private sector partners that primarily focus on tangible projects that create economic opportunity and improve the region’s attractiveness as a place to live, work, and raise a family. MAC frequently helps communities identify regional opportunities, plan and design projects, and acquire resources to make those regional projects a reality.

- Brighton Area Historical Societywas formed in 1981. Our purpose is to preserve, advance and disseminate knowledge of the history of the Brighton Area. The membership is composed of people who feel this purpose is worthwhile and should be promoted. The Lyons School (pictured) was very generously deeded to the society by the Brighton Township Trustees.

- Dearborn Historical Societynon-profit organization, was formed, as stated in its constitution, to "foster interest in the history of Dearborn and vicinity, and to collect and preserve material, artifacts and archives relating thereto." It had its beginning in 1939, when Dearborn Historical Commission Chairman, Floyd L. Haight, carrying out one of Mayor John L. Carey's objectives, to form a historical society of Dearborn, appointed Mrs. Harold Barber and Mrs. E. Roy Bryant, as co-chairman, Miss Clara Snow and Miss Iris Becker to plan an Old Timers' Get together. The first Old Timer's Luncheon was held at Mt. Olivet Church on May 25, 1940. Mayor Carey was the principal speaker and 125 people attended. Those present were supposed to have been residents of Dearborn for at least 30 years and be 50 years of age.

Through special events, field trips and our award winning Ford Legend newsletter, the HFHA continues in it's mission, to foster interest in the life and accomplishments of Henry Ford and to preserve and interpret the landmarks associated with his life. (It was HFHA members who were instrumental in raising funds to purchase the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, birthplace of the Model T, thus preserving one of the nation's most significant automotive landmarks.
